Just Neighbors Launches Matching Grant to Support Flood Brook Backpack Program
As we all know, the price of food has risen dramatically in recent years, and this has placed additional strain on families struggling to make ends meet. In response to this growing need, Just Neighbors is proud to announce a matching grant campaign to support the Backpack Program at Flood Brook School, which provides food assistance to local families every week.
Each week, the Backpack Program supplies food to 10–12 families in the community. Understanding the vital impact of this initiative, Just Neighbors is stepping up to match donations—dollar for dollar—up to $5,000. If we can raise $5,000 through community contributions, Just Neighbors will donate an additional $5,000, covering the entire $10,000 cost to run the program for a year.
This collaborative effort includes The Neighborhood Pantry, Flood Brook School, and Neighborhood Connections, all working together to ensure that no family in our area goes without the food they need.
How It Works
The Growing Need
The cost of the program is approximately $200 each week—or $10,000 per year. That figure has doubled in the last three years due to rising food prices. Importantly, every dollar goes toward purchasing food. All labor—shopping, assembling bags, and delivering—is generously donated by community volunteers.
Your support can make a real difference. With your help, we can continue this vital service for another year.

How It Works
- The Neighborhood Pantry purchases all of the food for 10–12 grocery bags each week.
- Because the bags are delivered directly to families (not transported by students or school buses), large paper shopping bags are used—allowing each family to receive a generous amount of food.
- Every Friday morning, a driver from Neighborhood Connections picks up the food bags and delivers them to families selected by the school. One bag is also delivered personally by local clergy.
- Deliveries are made 52 weeks a year—this is a year-round effort to fight food insecurity.
